Sustainability
Pellicceria Roberto Antonello operates to conserve biodiversity in our planet in order to make fur trading sustainable,
and complies with international regulations for the protection of the environment. Our country supports the Washington
Convention on the international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora (CITES).
The Washington Convention is today one of the most important international regulatory tools to ensure environment protection.
Trade is one of the main causes in the reduction of many animal and vegetable species, when carried out without regulations,
discipline and controls.
A balanced and ordered use of animal and vegetable species instead supports the protection of natural resources. Local
populations, with few alternative economic means, often in serious states of poverty, have the opportunity to create and
maintain jobs and therefore maintain active the productive system. Controlled breeding and regulated hunting ensure the
maintenance of natural and economic assets of regions that do not have other resources.
CITES is included in the activities of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and came into force in Italy in 1980;
it is currently applied in 175 states. In Italy, the implementation of the Washington Convention is entrusted to several
Ministries: Ministry of Environment and for the Protection of Territory and Sea, Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry
of agriculture, food and forestry. The latter Ministry holds a fundamental role, pursuant to current regulation, through the
CITES service by the State Forestry which manages the administrative management for the purposes of certification and of
technical-specialist control for compliance with the Convention.
